The component has a set of primary electrodes (4) arranged in an input region (2), and a set of secondary electrodes (5) arranged in an output region (3). The output region includes piezoelectric subfields (6, 7) that are mechanically coupled in parallel with one another. Spatially adjacent subfields are alternately and electrically coupled to one another at a longitudinal end over one of the secondary electrodes and insulated from each other at another longitudinal end by an electrically insulating layer (9), where the secondary electrodes are electrically connected in series. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a piezoelectric component.
