The sorption device has several chambers that include a vaporizer (5), a capacitor (4), and two sorption beds. A condensate return portion (6) connects the vaporizer and capacitor. A valve (7) controls the flow rate of condensate and/or interruption of the flow of condensate in the condensate return portion. A heat exchanger is arranged in each chamber and a level sensor (10) is arranged in the capacitor. An independent claim is included for method for operating sorption device.
