The machine has two drivable winding spindles (3.1, 3.2) for accommodating and winding coils (5). A winding revolver (1) is rotatably supported in a machine frame (2), and guides the spindles alternately into a winding region and a changing region by rotation. A pressure roller (6) is attached to the spindles in the winding region, and is held on a movable roller carrier (20). A measuring device (11) detects vibrations occurring at the spindles, and has a distance contour (13) cooperating with a fixed distance sensor (11.1) without contact and formed on the revolver or roller carrier. The distance sensor is formed as a contact-less induction sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling and/or monitoring a winding machine.
