The damping device (D) has a cylinder (3) which is filled with a magnetorheological fluid (8), and a piston (1) movably arranged in the cylinder. The piston has flow opening (9) for the flow of the fluid with a movement of the piston. A magnet unit is arranged for the formation of a magnetic field in the region of flow opening for the change of the viscosity of the fluid.
