The block has a housing (2) for accommodating flat rechargeable battery cells (6) i.e. lithium battery cells, which are held in the housing in a pre-determined arrangement (30). A cathode arrester (7) of one of the cells and an anode arrester (8) of the other cell are electrically connected with one another via a contact device (20) for electrical interconnection of the cells. The contact device consists of a spacer element (10) and a clamping element (11). The elements are designed as one-piece with a plus pole (14) and a minus pole (15) of the block.
