The device (5) has an actuating element for diverting a partial stream of exhaust gas from an exhaust line (9) into a combustion engine (1). Heat exchangers (6-8) transfer heat from the exhaust gas temporarily on operation medium e.g. engine oil (2), coolant (3) and transmission oil (4). The element is designed as a fan (14), where operation of the element is controlled in a region of the engine based on a state variable detected by an exhaust gas temperature sensor (15), an engine oil temperature sensor (16), a coolant temperature sensor (17) or a transmission oil temperature sensor (18). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a heating device.
