The device (10) has a receiving unit (14) receiving a payment unit, a recycling memory (16) storing a part of received payment unit to use the payment unit, and a controlling unit determining a total value of the payment unit. The controlling unit controls the recycling memory in dependence on a difference between the invoice amount and total value, where the device checks a predetermined condition during the reception of the payment unit without any affect of the total value and stops the reception of the payment unit when the check results satisfies given condition. An independent claim is also included for a method for processing a payment for a predetermined invoice amount.
