The method involves determining a driving state parameter (Zf), which characterizes a driving status of a motor car (100). A target acceleration of the car is determined depending on the driving state parameter and an environmental parameter i.e. object position- and status data vector (Zo) so as to control longitudinal dynamics of the car depending on the target acceleration by an engine control unit and a brake control unit. The target acceleration is additionally determined depending on a weighting factor for lowering sensitivity of controlling process in less critical situations. An independent claim is also included for a motor car comprising a control device for controlling longitudinal dynamics.
