The multi-stage transmission comprises a drive shaft (1), an output shaft (2) and four planetary gear sets (P1,P2,P3,P4), which are arranged in a housing (G). Brakes (03,04,05) and coupling units (56,68,78) are provided, whose selective engagement causes different gear ratios between the drive shaft and the output shaft. The drive shaft is connected with an annulus wheel of the third planetary gear set and the bar of the former planetary gear set is connected with the third shaft (3).
