The method involves operating a household device i.e. hob (1), by a sensor field (5) i.e. touch screen, and actuating the sensor field by a stylus (6) using the finger of a user. Four cooking areas (3a-3d) are formed at a surface (2) of the hob, where the surface is covered with a glass ceramic plate. The stylus is inserted into a pin holder (7) during non-utilization of the stylus, where a base of the holder is made of metal. A storage region (8) is magnetically connected with the holder, and the hob is detected by a reed switch or an inductive switch during setting or storage of the holder. An independent claim is also included for a household device system for operating a household device.
