A system for issuing fuel-efficient driving recommendations is incorporated in a vehicle having a stepped automatic transmission whose gears are shifted in response to a gear command signal. The fuel-efficient recommendation issuing system calculates a driving force demand based on a circumference in which an output power control component is operated by a driver and a gear of the automatic transmission, a determination as to whether the vehicle is being driven fuel-saving based on the driving force demand and reports the result of the determination. The fuel-efficient driving recommendation system calculates a driving force demand for performing engine output control and a driving force requirement for determining whether the vehicle is being run to save fuel. A determination gear signal different from the gear command signal is used when the determination drive power demand is calculated, and is changed so as to coincide with the changed gear command signal.
