The analyzer (10) has an illumination device (12) that illuminates a beam in an aerosol filled analysis portion (24) along an illumination direction (14). An image sensor includes analysis unit (22) for analyzing the analysis portion transverse to the illumination direction of scattered light. The aerosol flows to the analysis portion in flow direction (18) perpendicular to the illumination direction, where line alignment of image sensor is parallel to illumination direction. A scattering plane (30) spans the illumination direction transversely to the flow direction.
