The maintenance unit (A) has parking station (I) and cleaning station (II) for respective print heads of the ink jet printer. The parking station has a cap (10) that contacts the print head which rests in a parking position and is arranged in adjacent to outwardly sealed collecting space (11), so that the drying of ink of the ink nozzles of the print head is prevented. The cleaning station has cleaning nozzle (21) for dispensing a cleaning fluid to the ink nozzles and suction opening (22).
