The roller (1) has a main body (3) made from a plastic material i.e. polyamide, and a bearing (5) i.e. rolling bearing, inserted in the body for rotatable mounting of the body. The body includes an external periphery surface (9) that is turned toward a traction unit e.g. belt or chain, where the periphery surface is partially provided with a metallic coating (10). The coating consists of transition metal such as nickel, cobalt, iron, silver, titanium and copper and/or metal alloys. The body consists of reinforcing fibers such as carbon fibers, glass fibers and aramid fibers.
