The clamping unit (1) has a housing in which piston (3) and piston rod (4) is engaged. A compression spring (7) is inserted between cylinder (2) and piston rod to exert a spreading force. A damping device (8) is introduced in annular gap of piston or piston rod or in inside wall of cylinder. The damping device is provided to generate direction or position dependent damping force along radial direction of friction element (10) which is fixed at cylinder and piston rod. The friction element is made of heat-resistant polyamide 66 and PA 46-PTFE.
