The lambda probe (1) has sensor unit (30) with built-in sensor element (32) and integrated heating element (31). A multi-conductor cable (40) connects the sensor unit having a plug housing (20) for connection of the lambda sensor to a control unit (10). An evaluation unit (50) controls and evaluates the sensor element for driving the heating element to digitize the measurement signals of the sensor element and transmit the digital measurement signals to the control unit via a two-wire bus (42).
