The driver assistance system (1) has a video camera (11), by which a video image of a surrounding area of a vehicle (10) is recorded with the objects (13,14). A display unit is arranged in vehicle, on which the video image is represented with the objects. A sensor unit (16,17) is formed for sensing the surrounding area and for creating a digital sensor image of the surrounding area of the vehicle. A processor unit (19) is provided, by which the video image is enriched by the information of the sensor image. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a driver assistance system for a vehicle.
