The method involves performing (S16) two-dimensional (2D) forward projection with respect to three-dimensional (3D) image data set of vessel structure of patient and comparing (S18) the 3D image data set with the 2D image data set. Pre-parameterization of 3D image data set is performed (S10) using locally customizable parameters before performing forward projection and comparison process. The 3D image data set is iteratively compared (S20) with respect to a preset criterion indicating a measure of quality while adjusting (S22) the value customizable parameters.
