The method involves providing a catalyst (12) in an exhaust region (11), where the lambda sensors (13,14) are located in the upstream and downstream of the catalyst in the exhaust direction. The latter lambda sensor is used as a control sensor in a phase after starting a combustion engine (10). The latter lambda sensor is switched-off in another phase, while the former lambda sensor is used as the control sensor. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program for performing lambda control operation method; and (2) a computer program product with a program code.
