The burner (10) has a vaporizer element (14) i.e. metal fiber vaporizer, for vaporizing liquid fuel. A grid (36) holds flame core of combustion flame from the vaporizer element, where the flame is generated during combustion of vaporized fuel. The grid is made of metal alloy, ceramic, carbon ceramic or semiconductor. The grid is arranged in a preheating zone of the combustion flame or between the preheating zone and the flame core. The grid is arranged parallel to a fuel delivery side (38) of the vaporizer element that is provided to deliver the vaporized fuel for incineration in the flame. An independent claim is also included for a method for burning liquid fuel.
