The barrier has a floating body (20) with two sectioned parts (22) that are made from a plastic film. The sectioned parts are interconnected or welded with one another while limiting an edge of an inner space (26). The floating body is limited by an upper edge (36), a lower edge (40), a forward edge (42) and a rear edge (38). A weight part (48) is flexibly attached at the lower edge. The lower edge and the upper edge are equal to or two times larger than the forward edge or the rear edge. The floating body is provided with the space, which is filled with air and/or foam (52) i.e. plastic foam. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a buoyant oil barrier.
