The method involves determining wear of a valve seat (34) and maximum flow of a fluid injected into an injection valve (10) for affecting sturgeon effect. A coking of an injector nozzle (36) of the injection valve is determined using one of partial models. An output of the partial model is used to correct a control of an actuator (11). Independent claims are included for the following: (1) computer program for operating injection valve; and (2) control and regulating device of combustion engine.
