The method involves transferring pretzels from primary position to secondary position along a guide rail (17) by spreading units (10). The spreading units are axially rotated and are provided with spreading fingers which are mutually parallel. The spacing between the spreading fingers is variable. The pretzel is received in the pretzel access hole by spreading fingers and the spreading fingers are connected with the edges of the pretzel loop such that the pretzel is axially rotated without generation of stroke and is transferred to secondary position. An independent claim is included for device for conveying pretzels with fixed orientation from freezer or baking device to packaging apparatus.
