The occupancy sensing device comprises a mechanical pressure sensor (7) which is arranged in a recess (2) at the lower side of cushion core (1) of seat. The size of the bottom surface (6) of recess corresponds to the size of the pressure sensor. A support plate (8) covers the pressure sensor. An intermediate layer (5) is formed between the bottom surface of recess and pressure sensor, and is comprised of reversibly deformable and homogeneous plastic material.
