The method involves detecting electric motor parameter using a measuring unit through a computing device. An electric motor parameter quantity is determined by an electric motor in a lifting region of a load by the computing device during a measurement period based on the detected motor electric parameter that is detected by the measuring unit. A load weight is determined from the determined electric motor parameter quantity, and a reference-motor parameter quantity for different reference loads by the computing device is determined with reference measuring time period. An independent claim is also included for an industrial truck.
