The airbag (2) has an inflatable gas bag (4), and a gathered sleeve (5) fastened to an end of the gas bag. The sleeve is coupled to the gas bag such that the gas bag is contractible through pulling an end (9) of the gathered sleeve. A holding unit i.e. blocking element (6), is arranged in the gas bag, and holds the gas bag in a contracted condition after contraction. A guide is arranged in the gas bag, and the gas bag is inflatable during safe release of the airbag, where the sleeve runs through the guide.
