The street light has a sodium vapor high pressure gas discharge lamp (3) that is arranged within a groove-shaped reflector (1) along longitudinal direction (A) of a channel (5) in the reflector. The longitudinal axis (8) of the gas discharge lamp is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the channel. A burner (2) of the gas discharge lamp is provided in the central region of the reflector having a parabolic cross-section.
