The method involves arranging separation unit (1) between inlet spacer (2) and overflow pipe (3). The feed stream is divided into two or more sub-streams, of which one or more is fed into a separation unit while other is moved away from the separation unit. The feeding of feed stream into the separation unit is controlled by a control device. A volumetric flow meter (10) is arranged with respect the separator unit.
