The hydraulic machine has an impeller (1), a housing (2) provided upstream to the impeller and a suction pipe (4) provided downstream to the impeller. A compressed air line is provided for introduction of compressed air in working space of the hydraulic machine. A unit is provided for detecting the temperature in the compressed air line before and after a shut-off valve. Another unit is provided for ventilation of the working space. An independent claim is also included for a method for preventing pressure surges in hydraulic machine.
