The centrifugal pump has a housing which is provided with fluid inlet (24) and pumping chamber in which impeller (16) is rotatably arranged. A sealing gap (26) connecting fluid inlet and pumping chamber, is formed between the impeller and housing. The portions of housing and impeller are formed by the sealing gap and are moved towards each other and are urged by resilient spring (36) in the direction of the sealing gap. A stopper (30) is provided to prevent the contact of portions.
