The holder (1) has a belt (2) i.e. lashing strap (3), for holding an object (18), and a fastening device for fastening the belt at a motor vehicle. A stretching mechanism is provided for stretching the belt, and a pre-holding device accommodates the belt that is not required for holding. The stretching mechanism and pre-holding device are arranged within a space that is enclosed by an elongate housing (9). The belt is completely made of plastic and/or fabric. The stretching mechanism is arranged in a region of an aperture i.e. slot, at the housing.
