The method involves measuring shape and dimension of a specimen (10) e.g. gauging ring, with a scan trajectory in a scanning method. Raw data from single point touching and/or scanning method is stored. A correction data set is generated from the stored raw data and identified shape and dimension of the specimen depending on measuring feature and/or measuring method at a workpiece before and/or during and/or after the measurement of the workpiece. The generated correction data set is utilized to correction or measurement results.
