The machine has a tube shaping unit through which a flat strip of packaging material (5) is projected for forming packaging material tubes (1a,1b). The longitudinal edges (6,7) of packaging material strip are provided in the area of a shaping tube, to form longitudinal weld portions (2a-4a,2b-4b,8b) welded by a longitudinal weld sealing unit. The position of longitudinal edges of packaging material strip is controlled by a strip edge control unit. The position of packaging material strip is changed based on strip position detected by a position detecting element.
