Preparation of macromer comprises reacting a polyol with an ethylenically unsaturated isocyanate in the presence of a catalyst based on zinc-and/or bismuth-carboxylate, where the polyol has an average functionality of 2-6 and hydroxyl number of 10-200 mg potassium hydroxide/g. Independent claims are included for: (1) the macromer obtained by the above process; (2) the preparation of polymer filled polyol comprising radically polymerizing the ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of the macromers under the addition of reaction moderators in a base polyol; (3) the polymer filled polyol; and (4) the preparation of polymer dispersion comprising radically polymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of the macromers under the addition of reaction moderators in water.
