The ironing station comprises an iron and a base having a portable receiver for closing the iron remote from base. A spacer (30) is provided in receiver for spacing a sole of the iron facing a support surface (12) from ground (8). An intermediate space (34) between portable receiver and ground is partially and laterally opened. A recess is formed as a pocket on base, for introducing the spacer when positioning the portable receiver on ground. The receiver is provided with a rear-side boundary (16b) for securing the iron in longitudinal direction.
