The invention relates to an advantageous equipping of building heating systems with energy-saving components while avoiding the disadvantages of conventional systems, which can also be used for room and / or building cooling using, according to experience, low drinking water temperatures. The main feature of the invention is an additional heat-insulated energy store in which the heating / cooling medium is located and which is expediently accommodated in the immediate spatial vicinity of the heat / cold source. During the heating season, the temperature of the heating medium in the energy storage device is only heated to the temperature that corresponds to the required heat output in the building, taking into account the current ambient temperature. The energy-degrading return admixture can be completely omitted. In cooling mode (during the summer months), the energy storage device is cooled by dissipating heat using the low temperature of the inflowing drinking water. For this purpose, a heat exchanger is installed in the drinking water connection pipe. For reasons of hygiene, this is always flowed through to avoid stagnation of drinking water.
