The method involves detecting environment data (D) related to environment of vehicle and storing the environment data in hierarchical data structures. The objects (O) surrounding the vehicle are identified and detail information level of hierarchical data structures in regions (B1-B3) of the identified objects are adjusted based on properties of the objects. The detail information level of hierarchical data structure corresponding to an object with high uncertainty is increased than that of other objects.
