The adjuster (3) has a detection device for detecting pivoting of a backrest (2), where the adjuster is moved into a preset target position based on pivoting of the backrest and moves belt strap deflection rollers (4, 4') for deflecting belt straps (5, 6). The rollers are movable below margin height (H) that is measured along a vehicle vertical axis (Z) and determined by highest projection of a seat cushion (7). The rollers are movably or pivotally connected with a vehicle seat (1) in a region of the cushion. A load-carrying connection is producible between the rollers and seat.
