The device has a magnet (306A), and another magnet (306B) arranged at distance from the former magnet. A movement assembly controls the distance between the magnets, where the movement assembly comprises a drive spindle (309). The spindle is connected with a portion with right-hand threads (311A) and another portion with left-hand threads (311B). A motor (305) rotates the spindle and is in communication with a surface location. An antenna (308) and a magnetic permeable element and rings are arranged between the magnets. An independent claim is also included for a method for surveying formation of a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) apparatus.
