Solutions are described in which polymers are dissolved in ionic liquids or a mixture of ionic liquids and non-solvents. Complex-forming transition metal compounds, in particular transition metal salts in a concentration of 0.01 to 1% by weight, based on the weight of the polymers, which stabilize them rheologically and thermally, are added to the polymer solutions. The transition metals are preferably Co, Cu, Ni, Mn, Zn or Ag. The polymers are preferably polysaccharides or polyacrylonitrile. The non-solvent is preferably water. Moldings, such as fibers, nonwovens, foils, beads, tinsel or foams, can be obtained from the polymer solutions. The moldings, in particular the fibers, have a reduced tendency to fibrillate.
