The tester (1) has a gas testing device (2) connected with a mechanical test pressure generator (3) i.e. electrical compressor, to form a structural unit for testing test pressure. The gas testing device controls or regulates the test pressure generator. The gas testing device performs an automatic test or measurement process with the mechanical test pressure generator. The gas testing device includes a control and evaluation unit (8), which is connected with the test pressure generator, and is connected with a pressure gauge (10). An independent claim is also included for a method for testing pressure of fluid lines and tanks with a gas testing device and a test pressure generator.
