The method involves associating a passive antenna (21) of a passive resonant circuit (17) to antennas of radio frequency transponders (13, 14). The circuit is tuned such that the resonant frequency resulting from the association corresponds to one of the lateral band emission frequencies of the transponder to be read. The passive resonant circuit is configured to obtain a behavior corresponding to a format for each transponder. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a system for reading a radio frequency transponder (2) a support object containing main transponders, secondary transponders and a passive resonant circuit (3) a transponder (4) a travel document comprising transponders between the pages between two covers.
