Furnace, and a process for its operation, a process in which: - a main oxidizer is injected at a regulated flow rate in the combustion chamber (2) of the furnace, - of the fuel is burnt in the combustion chamber (2) with the main oxidizer in producing the heat energy and of the fumes (6) at a temperature higher than 600°C, - removing the gases (6) by an evacuation duct (13), said flue gases (6) are removed, which may contain residual oxidizable materials, the evacuation duct (13) being provided with an input of the dilution oxidizer (14) in the vicinity of the combustion chamber (2), - are oxidizable materials with the residual oxidizing agent of the dilution by means of a flame (12) at the level of the input of the dilution oxidizer (14), - it detects the intensity of the flame in the evacuation duct (12), and - it regulates the flow rate of injection of main oxidizer into the combustion chamber (2) as a function of the intensity of the flame detected.
