The assembly has a transverse or horizontal roof bar (8) whose slide (7) extends along length of the bar to receive a support part i.e. side friction block (9a), of a support element (9) for sliding in the slide. The slide and the support element part comprise surfaces (10a, 10b, 11 A, 11b) displaced with respect to one another and permitting the support element to pivot with respect to the slide between two angular positions (A, B) when the part is engaged in the slide. The roof bar is formed of a metal i.e. aluminum, section obtained by extrusion.
