The process in order to allow the user of an application running on a data processing system access to a set of files are organized in a directory tree, by means of an element of a user interface - machine comprising means of navigation within the tree structure from an initial position to a final position, in which this initial position is determined as a function of a correlation between the first semantic information supplied by the application and second semantic information associated with the directories.
