The system (250) has a beacon (106) fixed to a solar panel (100) and comprising a position sensor, central unit and a communication unit i.e. antenna (108). An alarm center (202) comprises a communication unit i.e. antenna (208) for communicating with the antenna of the beacon and an alarm generation unit e.g. sound or visual alarm generation unit. The beacon includes an electric energy source e.g. battery, and the sensor includes an accelerometer i.e. three-axis accelerometer. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a solar panel, comprising a frame and an anti-theft system (2) a method of detection of attempted theft of solar panel.
