The device has a S-shaped metal rod fixed on a shutter of a mailbox, and constituting a trigger element of the device. The metal rod actuates a blocking part to vertically drive a two-colored indicator plate by a junction rod. The indicator plate indicates presence or absence of a post inside the mailbox. A horizontal opening is formed in a facade so as to permit visibility of the indicator plate. A ring allows a user to release a blocking piston by slight traction so as to reset operation of the device.
