The assembly has an optical fiber (5) detecting presence of a sheet blank on a receiving surface of a clamp ring (1) of a stamping press. A support (10) is provided for the optical fiber and a housing (11) of the clamp ring. The housing has a recess (12) extending parallel to the surface and a drill (13) that extends perpendicular to the surface and is opened in the recess and on the surface. The recess receives the support. A groove (14) receives a part (15) of an end of the fiber. The drill receives another part (15a) of the end of the fiber extending perpendicular to the former part.
