The method involves sending an electric pulse on a control line (7) of a solenoid (13) of a starter (6). A response electric signal (U-1) is measured at the pulse. A transient rate of the measured electric signal is compared with the transient rate of a reference electric signal. Assembly error of the starter is indicated if the comparison between the electric reference electric signal and the measured signal shows a different transient rate. An automatic stopping and restarting function of a heat engine is de-activated in the event of indication of error of assembly of the starter.
