Method for managing a driving assistance system and a brake assist system for a motor vehicle, said driving assistance system comprising a speed regulation system (RVVi) able to regulate the speed of a motor vehicle, and said braking assistance system comprising an automatic braking system (FARC) being activated in the event of risk of collision of the vehicle with an obstacle present in its trajectory, said method being characterized in that it consists in: i) prohibiting the activation of the regulation system (RVVi) or deactivating it when the vehicle no longer fulfills at least one dynamic criterion determined by the vehicle in the presence of the obstacle, ii) generating (ARC) simultaneously an alert to the driver; and iii) activate the automatic braking system (FARC) with an intensity (l1, l2) depending on the imminence of the collision with the obstacle, in the absence of intervention of the driver on the vehicle dynamics following the alarm generation (ARC) and in the absence of reaction or insufficient response of the driver to avoid a collision.
